JAN. 12, 2021—MONTPELIER VT—Editorial Arts Academy is launching a remote class, Copyediting Fiction and Nonfiction Books: Principles & Mechanics. Designed for beginner and intermediate editors who want to learn how to copyedit fiction and nonfiction books, Copyediting Fiction and Nonfiction Books: Principles & Mechanics starts January 18, 2021 on Zoom, meeting Mondays (6:30–8:30pm ET) January 18 through February 22, 2021. The cost is $479 and includes membership in a Slack group.

This class is a crash course on copyediting trade books — popular books for a general audience (not technical books, medical books or textbooks). Students study both the principles and mechanics of copyediting. Weekly homework and editing practice help sharpen editing skills by using excerpts from real manuscripts.

This copyediting course is different from others. First, it’s focused only on trade books, and second, the course isn’t divided into different levels but rather combines all levels in one. It’s an intense course that teaches basic skills and approach, providing all that’s needed in order to begin working as a freelance book editor.

Instructor Susannah Noel, MA, has copyedited and proofread books, websites, corporate communications, and academic journals for over twenty years. She now focuses exclusively on fiction and nonfiction trade books for traditional publishers, particularly Macmillan, and independent authors. Read more about her at Noeleditorial.com.
